Bushnell Tour V5 Rangefinder Review: A Perfect Choice

Bushnell Golf is a leading manufacturer of golf equipment. Their flagship product is the Bushnell Tour V5 Laser Rangefinder. It’s an upgrade from the previous version, the Pro XE. Recently, I got a chance to try out the new rangefinder and see how it performs.

Are the Bushnell Tour V4 really all that they claim to be? We’re going to find out.

Golfers often carry a rangefinder along with them during their rounds. These tools help them measure distance accurately so they know where to aim. They also come in handy when playing unfamiliar courses. Without one, you might not realize how far away certain hazards are until it’s too late. Having a rangefinder can really improve your scorecard.

Features

PinSeeker with Visual Jolt

What sets the Tour V5 apart from the previous Bushnell rangefinders is the ability to lock into your target and be confident that you’re getting an accurate reading. In the past, previous versions would read your distance and provide you with a jolt when it locked into the area that you wanted to shoot at, whether it was a flag or a tree if you were laying up or whatnot.

But now, the Tour V5 will give you a distance reading, and the jolt is accompanied by a red ring around the optic screen, further confirming the proper distance. You’ll see it when you look through the lens, and the number will come up to show you just how far you are away from the object. This is a game-changer, not only because it gives you more illumination to see the number, but because it guarantees you that this is, in fact, the distance that it’s shooting.

Far Readings

With the Tour V5 rangefinders, you can shoot a flag from five to one thousand meters (five to three hundred feet) away. The accuracy of the shots you take is really impressive, making it easy for you to attack courses.

You can also change the distance readings from yards to meters with a press of the side button.

Perfect Size

It’s easy to hold with just one arm, but if you need to hold it with both arms, you can do so without difficulty.

The case is really impressive, as it provides a strong home for the rangefinder, so you can toss it in your bag to keep it safe if you have it in a pocket with balls or other items.

There is also a clip on the case that lets you clip it to your golf bag as well.

Using the Bushnell Tour V5

With the Tour V5, all you need to do to take a picture is simply aim it at a target and then press and hold the button. The magnification is 6X, so you’ll see things clearly from afar or even close up, such as when you’re aiming for something other than the pin itself.

If you’re having trouble focusing, you can change the focal length of your camera by picking it up and moving it closer to your eyes. You’ll see a clear viewfinder on the back of your camera, which means you know exactly where you need to take your next photo.

Once the batteries weaken, the screen won’t turn on, so that is a warning that you need to change the batteries. Also, you don’t have to clear any previous readings, since shooting your next shot will do so, which makes it easier to pick up, use, and drop.

Make sure you’ve got the right lens mounted on the camera, thanks to the flashing ring and vibrating pulses. The magnetic cart allows you to store it easily when not in use.

How Many Courses Does the Bushnell Rangefinder Hold?

Pros

  • Visual Jolt technology to help you zero in on the pin
  • Gives golfer access to the Bushell golf app
  • Very accurate distances

Cons

  • No slope mode

Bushnell Tour V5 vs the Tour V5 Shift

A new upgrade to the Tour V5 called Tour V5 Shift provides slope-compensation distance. Slope compensation adjusts for elevation. There is an option on the side of the Tour V5 Shift that lets you toggle between slope-compensation and non-slope-compensation modes.

You cannot use slope mode during tournaments, so you can turn it on and off depending on how serious a game you are currently engaged in. The slope algorithm has been improved and displays the slope reading when you fire a shot. If you wish to adjust for slope to compensate for elevation (and remove the guesswork), then the V5 Shift would be an excellent option.
