People often ask, what is a Simmons Laser rangefinder?
Let’s find out!
What Is a Simmons Laser Rangefinder?
The Simmons laser rangefinder is an accurate, easy-to-use tool that can be used to measure distances from up to 1,000 feet away. It’s also the perfect accessory for hunters and outdoorsmen who need to know how far their prey or game is at any given time.
The device has a built-in display screen, so you don’t have to worry about losing your place in the field while measuring distance.
What is a Simmons Laser Rangefinder?
Simmons LRF 600 Rangefinder
The Simmons RF600 is a range finder that has been around for over 30 years. It was the first to use laser technology, and it remains one of the best in its class.
The RF600 uses a laser beam instead of an infrared light source, which allows you to see through fog or smoke. This makes it ideal for hunting and shooting sports, where visibility can be limited.
Range
This laser ranger offers an impressive 600-yard maximum distance, but that is only for a highly reflective object. You can hit a tree at 400 meters and a deer at 200 meters. That is a pretty shallow depth of field, in my opinion, so the accuracy starts to fall off pretty quickly past 300 meters.
How many meters in the Simmons LRF600 accurate for?
At five to 300 meters, the Simmons LRF600 Laser Rangefinder is accurate to within one meter, but further out drops off sharply. I would not recommend trusting the accuracy of this model past 300 meters.
To assist you in seeing where objects are located about your target, the Simmons LRF600 Laser Range Finder offers 4 times magnification.
The image is clear and sharp, but the brightness is not the best. The field of vision on this laser range finder is 320 feet at 1 thousand meters, so you get a generous field of vision for locating and then measuring your target.
Features
This is a very basic rangefinder, lacking advanced features like the ability to shoot at long distances or accurately measure ranges up to 300 meters.
However, it is perfect for quickly measuring the distance between two objects when they’re within 300 meters.
A good beginner’s rangefinder will give you a line of sight distance to your target.
Unfortunately, the device doesn’t include an inclinometer; therefore, you don’t know the equivalent horizontal distance for non-level targets.
Easy to Use
With its single-push button operation, the Simmons LRP600 Laser Range Finder is very easy to operate. After a few short presses of the button, it gives you an accurate distance measurement. However, I would’ve liked for it to be quicker at giving a reading.
It has no advanced functions, but it provides basic functionality. You need to estimate the actual range if your targets are uphill or downhill from you.
Battery
This laser rangefinding tool is powered by a single AAA alkaline cell, and an alkaline cell is not included in the kit.
Are alkaline cells really any harder to come by these days?
Yes, they are, but they’re also much easier to obtain. We wish Simmons had made the LRF 600 work with AA batteries instead, but it does perform very well with alkaline. We have used the LRF 600 Laser Range Finder for more than 2,500 readings so far, and it still works fine.
Durable
This rangefinder’s plastic housing may look cheap, but it’s actually quite sturdy. It has lots of ridges and stipple to help you hold onto the device, and it’s water resistant, so you don’t have to worry if it gets wet.
Unfortunately, the optical barrel isn’t filled with nitrogen, which means it won’t be able to see through foggy conditions.
Light Gathering Capability
This rangefinder has average light-gathering capabilities because it doesn’t have fully multi-coated optics. It is good for bright daylight but isn’t quite so useful at night.
The Simmons LRF 600 is easy to see and use during daylight hours. However, at night, the LCD screen becomes too dim for us to view easily. Also, the batteries last less than two hours.
Optics and Focus
The Simmons LRF 300 laser rangefinder has a fixed focal length, which means you cannot change the distance at which you can see an object clearly.
However, even though the magnification doesn’t affect the quality of the images, they’re still quite good up to 600 yards away.
Viewing Angle & Eye Relief
The eye relief is 20 mm, which is ideal for shooting from a prone position. The Simmons LRF 600 laser rangefinder has an excellent viewing angle.
Distance Measurement
With its integrated laser rangefinder, the Simmons LRF 600 offers precise distance measurement capabilities. Its optical system delivers up to 1/2″ precision.
It measures distances down to 0.5 inches. The LRF 600 has an adjustment for its output so you can adjust it to your preferred level. Choose from low, medium, or high-powered levels.
Conclusion
Simmons rangefinder provides a good hunting experience.
