Current production facilities

Zeiss Sports Optics is an optical company based in Germany. They manufacture lenses for cameras and binoculars.

Wetzlar factory

The main manufacturing facility for most ZEISS products, including sport optics, is located in Wetzlar, Germany. Along with Zeiss, the city of Wetzlar is home to the manufacturing site of several notable optics brands – especially, Leica, Minox, Schmidt & Bender, and Leidolf.

Zeiss passed through a series of grinding processes before taking the shape of prisms. The finished product must be cleaned thoroughly in order to remove any grinding residues or dirt particles. Once the glass components are clean, they’re coated with a special formula to prevent light loss. This coating reduces the problem of light loss by up to four percent.

Zeiss is used for making binoculars because it is lightweight and strong. It also doesn’t corrode or rust easily. A lathe machine cuts out the shape of the binoculars while a 5-axis milling machine cuts out the shape inside the barrel.

Zeiss parts are made up of metal and glass. They are then assembled together into lenses. The process of making anodized parts takes place in a cleanroom. Workers assemble them individually before sending them to the next stage.

Zeiss spotting scopes and riflescopes are made by hand, and they’re inspected by hand. Quality controls include manual checks as well as high-tech inspections. Light transmission tests, gas leakage test, extreme temperature tests, magnification power checks, and manual inspection of optical parts are performed.

It is a company that develops optical and optoelectronic products. Their innovations lead them to create high-quality products. They invest a lot of money into research and development. They also train their employees well and give them incentives.

Oberkochen factory

The Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung (Carl-Zeiss Foundation) is headquartered in Oberkochen. All marketing and sales operations are conducted there, including the manufacturing and sale of some products. Until 2018, Binoculars, Telescopes, Riflescopes, and all other Sport Optics were only manufactured at the Wetzler Factory. However, Zeiss shifted production of certain components at Oberkocher as well. Currently, some Sport Optics are also produced at Oberkocher, along with the predominant manufacture of Zeiss Camera Lenses, Semiconductor Technology Products, and Optical Lithography.
