Prominar Trademark
Registration of the Prominar trademark was approved by the Japanese Patent Office in 1947.
Spinners’ Business
The company was founded in 1894 as a textiles shop and entered the spinners’ business in 1919.
Kōwa K. K.
In 1939 the trading and spinning activities became separate companies, and the trading company became Kōwa K. K. (興建㈱).
Kowa Optical Works
After 1945, the company attempted diversification and created the dependent Kowa Optical Works in 1946.
It produced optical instruments for a short time, then switched to higher-value products such as opera glasses or binoculars. Some of these products were bought by the US military.
