Telescopes

Department store 50 mm Tasco specialty refractors on modified mounts tend to be pejoratively referred to as department store telescopes. Low quality, low-cost instruments targeted at impulse buyers, and advertised by claiming high magnifications far beyond any attainable use.

History

Tasco is a company that makes telescopes. Their main focus is on performance optics. They also make other products such as binoculars, scopes, and cameras.

Tasco was founded in 1969 by John T. Meade. He wanted to make high-quality binoculars. But he couldn’t get any money from investors because there were too many competitors.

So he decided to start making telescopes instead. Then he found out about a new invention called fiber optics. This made it possible to transmit light over long distances without using wires.

When he used this technology, he could make very powerful telescopes. And he started selling them. Soon after, he invented a new kind of telescope called the Tasco. This was the first telescope to be made entirely of plastic. That meant you didn’t need to buy glass anymore.

Visto Outdoors was acquired by Orbital Sciences on February 9, 2015, after closing their merger. On February 10, 2015, Visto Outdoors began trading on the New York exchange under the ticker symbol VSTO. Shares were issued to ATK shareholders free of charge without any requirement to do anything.
