How to Mount a Red-Dot Sight on a Scope – Full Guide, Tips, FAQs & More

How to mount a red dot sight on a scope?

It is a question most of us ask.

We will answer this question in this article.

Combined use of a riflescope and a red dot sight…

Red dots sights are very useful for shooting targets at close range. Riflescopes are great for long-distance shots. Combining them makes sense because you can see your target better when you’re closer to it.

Red dots sights are used by both military soldiers and hunters.

Advantages of red dot sights

  • Red dot sights are compact devices that allow you to see your target easily while keeping your eye open. They work well at close range because of the wide field of view.
  • Red dotsights are used by hunters who want to shoot at animals at night or in bad weather conditions. A red dot sight allows you to see more animals at once. You can adjust the brightness of the light, and your eye doesn’t need to be at a specific distance from the gun. Red dotsights are parallax-free, meaning that the aiming points are always on target.

Advantages of riflescopes

  • A rifle scope is a device used to magnify objects. In order to use it effectively, you need to know how to use it properly. You should be aware of your surroundings when using a rifle scope. For example, if you’re hunting at night, you should turn off the lights in the room. When you’re shooting at long distances, you should use a rifle scope with a wide field of view.

Advantages of the combined use for hunters…

Red dot sights are great for close-range shooting. But if the target is far away, then using a scope is better. You should always use your red dot sight if the target is closer than 50 meters. And if the target is farther than 50 meters, then you should use your scope. With this setup, you get the advantages of both types of sights. So you’re ready for any kind of situation. Fixed mounting solutions are much cheaper than buying two different kinds of mounts.

Disadvantages of the combined use

Red dots sights are bulky, and they don’t appeal to the eye. Mounting them on a riflescope adds some weight, and it may be uncomfortable to use the combination. Swapping between a red dot sight or a riflescope takes too long, even if the mounts are detachable.

Red Dot Sight with Magnifier

A magnifying scope mounted on the rifle is used to enhance the shooter’s vision. The scope is easily removed when not in use.

This combination of a red dot sight and the magnifying glass is sufficient for most shooting scenarios. When you need to shoot longer distances, however, it won’t work as well as a traditional rifle scope.

What’s the Solution? Having a Red Dot in your Rifle Scope?

Red dot gun sights are more effective than other types of sights. They allow you to acquire targets quickly and easily. You can see them better in low-light conditions. They are also more versatile than other types of sights because they can be used for long-range shooting and close-quarters combat.

Advantages of a Mini Red Dot on Top of your Riflescope

A red dot mounted on top of your scope allows you to see what you need to see without needing to change your eye position. You can easily focus on different distances and still maintain your aim.

Red dots are great for close-range combat. They give the user an accurate shot without having to aim. They also provide a wide field of view. This allows the user to see everything around them.

A magnifying glass combined with a red dot sight is an effective weapon system for long-range shooting. However, if you need to shoot farther distances than 100 yards, then you need a variable rifle scope or a variable zoom lens.

Red dots are great for close-up shooting but aren’t as useful when shooting long distances. A scope gives you more accuracy over longer ranges. Combining both is the best option.

How to Mount a Red-Dot Sight on a Scope?

Can you Build your own Riflescope with Red Dot on Top?

Yes, you can! And it’s quite simple to set up. You take your preferred rifle scope, use a Scope Riser Adaptor and mount your favorite red dot on top.

But, is it that easy?

It kind of is. You’ll be facing some limitations that you need to think about.

First, are you going to use a scope with a large Objective Diameter? If yes, then there are some challenges. Your red dots will need to sit higher than the objective bell. When using a large objective lens, there is a need for mounting the red dot very high. We recommend using Scope Riser Adaptors to make this possible. In our opinion, if you’re using a scope with a larger objective diameter, you might want to reconsider using a red dot sight.

Red dots are great tools for hunting because they allow you to see things up close without having to move away from your position. A scope with an objective lens smaller than 24mm is ideal for this purpose. However, you must zero your scope and red dot before using them.

This setup allows you to choose the optics you want. You’re not tied to any particular scope or red dot. You can mix and match them to create your combination. Scope adapters are affordable and easy to set up.

Can you go for a Red Dot Sight on Top of a Scope?

A combination of riflescopes with quality red dot optics can be a smart setup for hunters. However, if you have multiple rifles and use them for different purposes, then using your hunting rifle equipped with a magnified optic for close encounters and short-medium-long range shots seems to be the best choice. However, if you’re looking for a single firearm for close encounters and long-range shooting, then it’s a great idea to invest in a combo rifle with a red dot mounted on the top of the scope.

Conclusion

Red dots are used by hunters to help them aim at their prey. A hunter may be able to kill a dangerous animal in an instant.
