Establishing a Sight in Zero

When you bore-sight your scope, you use the reticle as a guide to making sure you’re aiming exactly where you want to be. This saves you time because you won’t need to adjust your aim after each shot.

To Bore Sight

Make sure you’re ready before firing your weapon! Unload your gun first, then make sure it’s safe. Place it on a stable rest. Center your target downrange so it floats in the middle of the barrel.

Adjust the elevation and windage settings until the crosshairs are perfectly aligned with the center of the target.

To Zero

After bore-sighting, you should be able to see the bullet holes in the target. You need to adjust your rifle scope to make sure that the bullet hole matches up with the bullet hole on the target.

This scope should be used in extreme conditions because it was made to withstand them.

Temperature

There are no additional procedures required. You need to adjust your settings before you go out into extreme temperatures. Battery life may shorten if you’re out in the cold for too long.

Capped Elevation Adjustment

This night vision scope has a low profile, capped height adjustment. The elevation adjustment is waterproof, and it can be used without the cover. A trim ring is provided to protect the threading when using as an external adjustment, and once you have established your zero point, you can now reset this elevation dial to zero.

While holding the adjustment dial, loosen the two set screws on the top of the dial with an Allen wrench. The dial should now rotate free, and you shouldn’t feel any clicks. Rotating the dial clockwise until the 0 on the dial aligns with the zero reference mark on the body tube, then turning the dial counter-clockwise until the dial stops.

Trim Ring Installation

To remove the outer cap, turn counter-clockwise until it clicks into place. Then install the trim ring by turning clockwise until it fits snugly against the body tube.

While holding the adjustment dial, loosen the two set screws on side of the dial with an Allen wrench. The dial should now rotate free, and you should not be feeling any clicks. Remove the adjusting cap with an upward twisting movement. Loosen the four sets screws of the upper clutch plate but do not remove them.

Rotate the upper clutch face counterclockwise until it stops against the lower clutch face. Tighten the four-set screw in an “X” pattern. A torque driver is required. Install the cap and turn the wheel until the “0” on the dial aligns with the zero reference mark on the body tube.

Turret caps should be tightened using a torque driver. Torque drivers are tools used to apply pressure to fasteners while tightening them. A torque driver applies force directly to the head of a bolt or nut. This allows you to apply more pressure than if you were to use your hand alone.

Dialing back to zero should engage the hold function without depressing the button.

Windage Adjustment

Windage adjustments are waterproof. You can use them without the cap. Loosen the set screws on the inside of the dial or the edge of the windage adjustment dial. The dial should now rotate free.

Rotate the dial until the 0 on the dial is aligned to the zero reference mark on the body tube while holding the dial. Tighten both set screws to 4 inches pounds. If no torque driver is available, tighten 1/4 turn past initial resistance.

Trim Ring Installation

Remove the outer cap by screwing clockwise. Install trim ring, by screwing counter-clockwise until snug against body tube.

Diopter Adjustment

Reticles should always stay focused. If the reticle starts fading in and out of focus or if the user experiences eyestrain with extended shooting sessions, the diopter may need adjusting.

To use a scope with parallax adjustment you should first loosen the locking ring by turning it clockwise until it stops. Then turn the eyepiece counterclockwise until it stops. Next, look through the eyepieces and determine if the reticle is in focus and clear.

When you stare at the reticle for too long, your eyes will focus on the reticle. This causes your eye to be focused incorrectly. To fix this problem, look away for a while and try again. You may need to turn the eyepiece inward or outward to get a clear view of the reticle.

Reticles should always be adjusted before adjusting the magnification. Adjusting the magnification without first focusing on the reticle can cause major changes in the magnification. This could result in a loss of accuracy and/or an increase in distortion.

Power Throw Lever

Nightforce ATACR riflescopes are equipped to change magnification settings quickly. A tool called the Power Throw Lever allows you to make quick changes without having to turn the entire unit around. You can use the lever to set your magnification level before shooting. Once you’re ready to shoot, simply pull out the lever and you’ll be instantly at your new magnification.

Parallax Adjustment

Most ATACR™ rifles scopes have parallax adjustments. Parallax is when the reticle appears to move relative to the target as you move your eyes across the exit pupil. Parallax should be checked before every shot to ensure accuracy.

Checking for and removing parallax

Parallax occurs when the eye moves relative to the object being viewed. This causes the image seen by the eye to be shifted relative to the actual position of the object being viewed. Parallax is caused by the movement of the observer or the object being observed.

To remove parallax, you need to adjust the parallax settings until the reticle stays still relative to the target regardless of your head movements. Note that the accuracy of the distance depends on your eyesight, the diopter setting, and the environment. Therefore, the distances marked on the parallax adjustments are approximate.

Turning the illumination on and off

Pressing the illumination control once will turn on the reticle. Holding it down for 3 seconds will turn it off.

Adjusting illumination intensity brightness

You can turn the reticle on and off by pressing and releasing the illumination button. Pressing and holding the illumination button will make the reticle brighter or darker than normal. Holding down the illumination button will cause the reticle to blink three times.

Selecting the reticle color

The DigIllum™ illuminated red-green reticle allows you to choose between red or blue light. Pressing the illumination control for about 5 seconds changes the color from red to green or vice versa.

Battery Replacement

When you turn the light on, the battery should be replaced. You must install the battery with the positive side up.

Cleaning the lens starts in the middle and works towards the edges. Don’t reuse the same swab as it may contain grit that can scratch the lens. Start over in the middle with a new swab. Repeat the process until the glass surface is clean. Use a small amount of cleaning solution to avoid streaks.
