Celestron Travel Scope 70, How to Use – Simple Guide

How to use a Celestron Travel Scope 70?

It is a question asked by many.

And in this article, we will answer that!

Celestron Travel Scope

Celestron Travel Scope 70 is a great telescope for terrestrial observers. However, it doesn’t work well for astronomy because of its large size. Additionally, it shows some signs of chromatic aberration.

The Celestron Travel Scope 70 may be a decent telescope after all. You just need to buy a new tripod and a finder scope. Don’t expect too much though, because this telescope is so small that it can show only very limited astronomical objects.

The Tripod of Celestron TravelScope

Tripods are useless for astronomical purposes. They’re designed for cameras, and they won’t hold up under the stress of high magnification. They’re also very expensive, and you should never buy them.

That was the bad news. But the good news is that the travel scope 70 is small enough that you can use it on any good tripod. You can also use it on a table or desk.

The Optics

The biggest optical problem in the scope is part of the mechanics of the telescope. The focusing mechanism used seems to be identical with the one used on a longer focal length achromatic, so it’s too short, and it protrudes into the light path. When using a prism diagonal, the aperture is probably about 65mm. It’s 60mm when using a mirror diagonal because it takes up more focusers travel and vignettes the light path.

Accessories

The two eyepieces have fairly wide fields of view, sharp centers, and decent edges. They’re certainly better than what most beginner telescopes come with, but they’re still not great.

The TravelScope 70 comes with an extra bag that holds the tripod. It’s a nice addition and might have been useful if the tripod that goes in it were any good. If you buy a smaller tripod, you might want to take advantage of this extra bag.

The finder scope is ridiculous. It doesn’t even work well enough to be useful. It barely belongs in a Happy Meal toy, let alone a real telescope. It is barely adequate for spotting objects, but it isn’t useful on its own as a field finder.

The biggest problem with the accessories is the 45-degree prism, which goes between the focuser drawtube and eyepiece. The tripod is made of plastic and feels cheap. It is ergonomically and optionally a disaster. Diagonally comes in either 45 or 90 degrees. An erecting prism can’t go above 90 degrees without looking up into it. A 45-degree prism can only go up to 45 degrees. A mirror diagonal shows a mirror image but doesn’t degrade the image as badly as a 45-degree prism does. For terrestrial spotting scopes, you need an upright image.

The problem isn’t ergonomics, it’s optics. The telescope is degraded by the prism. There is a lot of chromatic aberrations (false color fringing) before you even reach 40x magnification. The view of the moon is blurry because the view of the objective is off-center. This causes more chromatic aberration (fringing).

Upgrading the Accessories

Upgrading the eyepiece is a low priority because it should last a while. A red dot finder should replace the finder scope. Red dot finders do not magnify, but instead, project a red dot through an optical trickery to make the object appear to be at infinity. There’s no parallax. Finderscopes should be replaced with red dot finders. Red dot finders come with a matching mount and the mount screws into the eyepiece. Thumb nuts are screwed onto the eyepiece mounts.

Telescopes are very useful tools for finding things. You can use your telescope as a finder scope by looking at the sky yourself. You can also upgrade your tripod.

A good star diagonal is essential for any astronomer. It’s important to buy a good quality one. You should avoid spending over $100. You should also consider buying a second-hand one.

Celestron Travel Scope 70, How to Use?

General Use

The telescope is an awful piece of equipment. It takes too long to set up, and you need to be careful when looking through it because it’s hard to focus. You’re better off just going out into nature instead.

A telescope is a device used to magnify distant objects by means of lenses. Small telescopes are popular because they are portable and easy to use. Telescopes come in different sizes and shapes. Some telescopes are designed to be used as binoculars.

The Orion Nebula shows its bright core easily though slightly softly. It hints at the tenuous outer layer of gas and dust. The Trapezium stars are easily resolved, but the fourth star isn’t too difficult at 40X. The entire Orion’s Sword stellar cluster is visible and very pretty.

Andromeda Galaxy M31 (The Great Andromeda Nebula) is a spiral galaxy located about 2 million light-years away from Earth. Andromeda Galaxy M32 is a dwarf spheroidal galaxy located approximately 3 million light-years away from Earth. There is no evidence of M110.

M35, M37, and M36 are open clusters located near the constellation Gemini. These three open clusters are easily visible in the night sky with a telescope or binoculars. The cluster M36 appears close to M37 and M35.

The view of Caldwell 64 was so much dimmer through the ST80 than through the TS70 that it required averted viewing to detect that there was more than one star. The overall character of both views was the same, but the TS70 was noticeably dimmer than it should be. This proves that the effective aperture was stopped down.

Telescopes are great for looking at stars and planets up close. You can also use them to see things further away. There’s no reason why you can’t get started with a small telescope. Just make sure you know what you’re doing before you buy anything.

Double stars and the moon are two things that are easy to see when using a telescope. When observing these objects, the focuser should stay still and not wobble. This allows you to get the most accurate picture possible.

The moon looks beautiful when viewed through a telescope. You can see lots of details on the surface of the moon. There are craters on the moon. The moon is round.

Telescopes are very expensive, and you should be careful when using them. You could accidentally break your telescope if you drop it.
